I'm so happy that you are writing about this. I have kind of felt alone in my thoughts about living small for sometime. I have always felt more comfortable in smaller living quarters and with less stuff. I just want living smaller to be a choice not a forced situation because I'm desperate. Stuff is just stuff and too much just keeps us from enjoying life and accomplishing our goals. I just need a small space to call home and hang my hat like you said. I really think your focus now will be doable for you. I'm excited. I can't wait to see what happens now!

Exactly! I have been looking at the Tiny Tumbleweed Houses forever. I just love them. Now to afford one. I'm thinking the smallest one that allows a bathtub or separate toilet from the shower is for me. I think one of the smallest plans on wheels has that. I lived in a camper for part of my childhood and spaying ones self down with a removable spray nozzle while standing over or sitting on the toilet is not cool for me. I'm all about living small though. I've been minimizing my possessions for when life works out to get my tiny dreamhouse. I can't wait. It would be great to be neighbors with you Joan. Would love to see a pic of your friend's new place.

I am totally with you. I knew discipline was important but just can't seem to force myself to have some for some things in my life. It does make me feel better that we at least know what it is. It took real discipline to stick in there and raise those fine kids of ours alone all these years. We are great moms. I think it is hard to get motivated to be disciplined when it comes to just ourselves. Motivation comes with passion. Our kids were our passion then. Now maybe we need to find a little more passion in our own lives and it won't seem so hard. Luv you Joan. You are an inspiration.

This gives the information we can get from local records and Clu and previous sales, etc, but I was talking about what the homeowner did inside the home, why they did what they did (switched the plumbing around, by passed an electric box, the stupid stuff that they probably had some reason for at the time, but that fouls up the new owner when they run into it. As a Realtor I always provide the history of the house from public records for the use of my clients, but there is no way we can give them the things they will really want to know. Thanks for your comment. I had heard about your service on a radio program. Good luck

Thanks for your response, Sabine. I don't know if this goes to you or back on my blog? Crazy, I am still getting used to this. I totally agree with you and have chosen to reframe it as a positive for the rest of my life, but fighting all the negative implications and emotions has been incredibly time and energy consuming. I am glad there are professionals addressing this because I am seeing it all over the real estate business and most people cannot afford to seek professional help right now, that's why I think there should be blogs addressing it...I tried to move my entries about this to shortsalehostages.com, but no one is finding that so I came back to this one. I kept saying we need an online 12-step program for this one!

Many thanks for sharing your story with the world. It certainly goes far in humanizing the foreclosure epidemic.

While there are countless avenues distressed homeowners can pursue to procure legal advice, credit counseling, and real estate brokerage, I have noticed a critical component of care that is not being addressed; namely the human toll of facing or having gone through foreclosure. Who is helping these people grapple with the guilt, shame and humiliation inherent in the eventuality of losing one’s home?

At the macro level, it may appear to be a result of people who have made poor decisions, been taken advantage of by unscrupulous lenders, or simply stretched themselves by buying more house than they could support, but if we take a closer look at individual situations we will find everyday people whose security, identity, sense of community, and sometimes even family unit being severely compromised by current economic realities.

I’m in the process of developing a program aimed at addressing the human toll of going through foreclosure or job loss. As a professional and life coach, I strongly believe that more important than the events that occur in one’s life, it is one’s response to those events that most strongly shape one’s future. My conviction is that even if someone loses their home, they don’t need to lose themselves in the process! I believe in being proactive in sharing the power of reframing responses in a very positive and motivating way so that this perceived ‘failure’ can become a springboard for future success. Doing nothing may simply result in one channeling their sense of loss and shame into a never-ending downward spiral from which many may never escape.

I totally agree with you, Joan. I was having thoughts along those same lines this week. We are our own worst critic and that in itself keeps us stuck. If we remember that just by doing one small thing a day or a week helps us know we are doing something to get to that goal. Check out Wayne Dyer's new book, "EXCUSES BEGONE!." It is wonderful encouraging reading. I love your posts. I can't wait to read the next one. Keep writing.
